About This Event

The annual Geelong Half Marathon takes place on a fast, scenic course around the beautiful Barwon River in Geelong. Entry fees directly support Geelong's University Hospital, particularly the Andrew Love Cancer Centre.

Course Description

The Geelong Half Marathon follows a fast, scenic 21.1km course along the beautiful Barwon River, starting from Belmont Park Pavilion and running downstream to Breakwater before heading upstream to Fyansford and returning to Belmont. The predominantly flat, riverside path offers stunning water views throughout the journey, making it an excellent choice for personal bests. The 5km course covers the first 2km of the half marathon route before heading upstream along the river and looping back to the finish. With kilometre markers, drink stations every few kilometres, and pacers available for 1:30, 1:45, 2:00, and 2:15 finish times, this well-organised event provides excellent support for runners of all abilities.

Participants are encouraged to arrive at least 30 minutes before their start time for registration, bag drop, and warm-up at 7:20 AM.

Weather & What to Pack

Geelong in mid-April typically enjoys mild autumn conditions, with temperatures ranging from 10-20°C. Mornings can be cool at the 7:30 AM start, so light layers are recommended that can be removed and stored in bag drop. Conditions are generally dry with low humidity, though you should check the forecast closer to race day. The flat, exposed riverside course means minimal shade, so sunscreen and a cap are advisable. April's cooler temperatures make for comfortable running conditions, but ensure adequate hydration at the seven drink stations along the half marathon course.
