About This Event

Australia's premier 10km road race on Tasmania's scenic North West coast. Running since 1985, widely regarded as the best 10km in Australia. Attracts runners seeking scenery, a destination running weekend, or a personal best.

Course Description

The Strait Link Burnie 10 is Australia's premier 10km road race, starting on Wilson Street near Intersport Burnie. The course heads south to the Bass Highway, then east to a 5km turning point before returning west along the highway. The final 550 metres delivers an exciting sprint finish back on Wilson Street. The flat, fast coastal route is renowned for producing personal bests, with stunning Bass Strait views throughout. The 5km event follows an identical start before turning at River Road junction (2.5km mark), whilst the kids' 800m dash features a straightforward out-and-back on Wilson Street. Drink stations are positioned at 2.5km, 5km, and 7.5km marks.

Getting There

The race starts on Wilson Street in central Burnie, easily accessible from the Bass Highway. Parking is available at the Multi-Storey Car Park on Marine Terrace and surrounding street parking. Public toilets are located at the Multi-Storey Car Park, Marine Terrace, and Burnie Surf Club. Bib collection on race day opens at 8:00 AM at Burnie City Council Chambers (80 Wilson Street). Arrive early to allow time for parking and warm-up before your race start time.

Late October in Burnie typically brings mild spring conditions with daytime temperatures ranging from 12-18°C. The coastal location can bring brisk sea breezes, particularly in the morning. Expect partly cloudy skies with possible showers. Dress in breathable layers - singlet or short-sleeve top with arm warmers you can remove if needed. Sun protection is essential despite cooler temperatures. Stay well hydrated before the race, and take advantage of the drink stations at 2.5km, 5km, and 7.5km marks during the 10km event.

Pre-event collection is at SportsPower Burnie (3/40 Mount Street) on Thursday 23rd (3-5:30pm), Friday 24th (9am-5:30pm), and Saturday 25th (9am-3pm). Race day collection is at Burnie City Council Chambers (80 Wilson Street) from 8am-11:30am.
